No first hand experience mind you, but it does kinda make sense. Consult your speedometer manufacturer for its recommended solution. This bracket is typically mounted to the engines intake manifold. How to Wire a Switch to Lock Up the Torque Converter on a R Transmission
- If you don't use the engine ported vacuum switch then the wire from terminal D should be grounded at all times.
- Have a helper depress the accelerator pedal all the way and hold it there.
- Watch how this happens in the following pictures.
- You can go a click or two on the adjuster either way from here, but no more.
- Many times this is caused by overheating the transmission.
THR4 Lockup Converter
- Route this wire through the rubber grommet in the firewall and down to the transmission.
- The only fix is to rebuild the transmission or replace it with a re-manufactured unit.

The transmission has the following dimensions and gear ratios Case to ext Housing. This is untested, but I see no reason why it won't work. The following drawing shows the geometry for the cable connection to the carb. Start engine and allow to go Closed Loop. This eliminates the need for a manual switch.

If they aren't right it is going to be hard to get the transmission to shift right under all load combinations and you sooner or later you will be fixing the transmission. The factory installed a couple of different types of pressure switches depending on the application. Will the tranny clear the headers? Before checking minimum idle speed be sure the ignition timing is correct and, be sure the throttle body is clean around the throttle plates.
You will need to install a female spade connector on the end of the black wire and run that wire to the new pressure switch photo B. You don't really have to use the delay valve, but I already had it so why not? Who knows what's in the converter. We will not spend time in this article discussing hydraulic pre load because it will just confuse the issue.
R4 lockup kit
You see the two terminals that you need to hook to. Now hook the cable back up, with the adjuster out towards the carb. The idle stop screw is used to regulate the minimum idle speed of the engine.
The cancel switch is mounted on a bracket under the dash. This does effect their relative starting positions so our pictures and illustrations are positioned as they would be in the valve body when it's operating. Put on safety glasses and place a large drain pan under the transmission pan. White arrow above picture.
How does a R4 work
It is very important to set up the Throttle Valve T. The wiring diagram shown is how I wired my car. Now again, with so many different variations of these things, online dating sites in you may also have a single wire solenoid.
Set it for full pull on the cable is full throttle on the carb. Mount the low-vac switch on the firewall beside the master cylinder, right by the plastic sleeve with all the vacuum hoses going through it. 3x2 to r4 TV hook up
This drum is a splined piece that connects to the input shaft. Will the tranny will fit in the car? Why, I don't know, but they did.
The blue, or in some applications dark green, wire terminal B is connected to the fourth gear overdrive switch in the valve body. Peek under a hot rod today and it's not uncommon to find an automatic overdrive resting between the frame rails. With out the proper turning radius at this hook-up point, the transmision will never operate properly.
The pictures are of the aluminum input drum. You need the low-vac switch so the converter will unlock in low vacuum situations, taylor swift dating snoop such as going up hill and heavy throttle.
